As the author of this book, I can recommend it without reservation. You feel you get to know the author, David Wallin. For example, …a therapist and patient whose predominantly dismissing styles mirror each other, may collude to steer clear of strong feelings. Great book Loved it. He agrees with many current psychoanalytic thinkers that the patient expresses what he cannot verbalize either through enacting it with atttachment, evoking it in others or embodying it.

First, I especially loved this book because it really highlighted how mindfulness and meditation can play a role attavhment promoting “secure attachment” spoiler alert: As I thumb back through the pages there are underlines and markings on nearly every page. Advancing a model of treatment as transformation through relationship, the author integrates attachment theory with neuroscience, trauma studies, relational psychotherapy, and the psychology of mindfulness.

Utilizing the relational, intersubjective prospective, he stresses that what occurs in a therapy session, is no less a creation un the therapist, than it is of the patient.
